Art in the Valley Gala Event

Trish Legault

A local girl, born and raised in Pembroke, Trish had always been fascinated with the arts. She started sketching at the young age of 5 and throughout her life treated it as a loose hobby.

After a 20 plus career in the military, trying to look forward, leaving one life behind and wondering what the future has in store, Trish has taken a new outlook on her direction. “ it’s time to take care of me!”

Just new to the medium of oil paint, Trish started painting with family once a week virtually during the first wave of COVID isolation. “This is when my true love affair with painting began.” Trish has said.

Trish had applied and was accepted into the Ottawa School of Art and started classes in January 2023. “I want to develop, learn techniques, grow confidence, I want to smile all the time, the way I do inside when I’m painting.”

Trish uses her home studio and creations as means to express herself and self healing. “When I paint, I feel calm, bliss, free! I’m able to put on canvas what otherwise I’m unable to articulate in words. I’m definitely an emotional artist, happy, sad, joy or pain, it all translates for me.”

Painting under the light of her current emotion has given Trish a diverse range of subject, medium and delivery in her paintings. “I’m finding my way.” Trish shares. Whether she is referring to art, life, or simply working through her emotions, she is taking the path she loves and moving forward.
